Cannock - Apr 2011

In April the Choir sang at the Chadsmoor Methodist Church. It was a delightful venue where we were treated to good food and received with warmth and cordiality.

 A Cornish Mouth Organ

Talgarth Male Choir (and supporters) has just returned from participating in the Cornwall International Male Voice Choral Festival.

The Choir was based in Newquay and fortified by good company, much humour and the odd Cornish Pasty was able to honour six singing engagements in four days at different venues around Cornwall - two of these being at the beautiful Truro Cathedral and the unique Eden Project (see photographs).

Talgarth Choir sang on the same bill as choirs from the USA, The Netherlands, Russia, Nepal (a major highlight), Ireland, Cornwall and Huntingdon (England). The last choir will be visiting Brecon this year and singing with Talgarth in St Mary's Church on Saturday, 15 October.

Several amazing styles and sounds of choral singing were experienced and enjoyed. In some parts of Cornwall the famous Pasty is known as the Cornish Mouth Organ. With this in mind, long serving chorister Howard Jones (he and his wife Gwen supporting cowboy hats) entertained a full hotel dining room with several songs played on his real mouth organ - played nonchalantly with one hand!

Tired  but buoyed by the whole experience the Choir arrived home after a memorable weekend.
